Nepal Trekking Seasons: Spring, Autumn, Winter, Monsoon
A realistic guide to spring, autumn, winter, and monsoon trekking conditions across Nepal's major Himalayan regions.
Autumn
Autumn is popular for a reason: post-monsoon air is often clearer, trails are active, and high mountain views can be excellent. Lodges on famous routes may be busy, so plan key nights early.
Clear skies do not remove altitude risk. Keep acclimatization days in the plan.
Spring
Spring brings warmer days, flowers in some regions, and a more forgiving feel at lower elevations. Haze can affect distant views, and popular routes still get crowded.
Snow can remain on high passes, so check current conditions before pass-heavy routes.
Winter and monsoon
Winter can be quiet and beautiful, but cold nights, snow, and closed high passes need respect. Monsoon brings rain, clouds, landslides, leeches in some lower areas, and transport delays.
Rain-shadow regions such as parts of Mustang and Dolpo can be better monsoon candidates, but they still need careful logistics.
